I will be teaching two separate groups of students, two students in each group. My mentor teach has provided me with the four students and two additional students, in case one of the initial four are absent the day I do my lesson. The students she has pointed out to me are in the mid 30s range according to the RAs. This is approximately where they should be for the middle of the school year in third grade. Additionally, the students chosen for this mini lesson are all well behaved and will work well for me.
The first four students she named and suggested I work with were easy for her to think about. However, when I asked her for two additional students as a back up she had to think about it for a moment. When she provided me with two additional suggestions she went on to explain them. These students should not be difficult, but one student, Dan, is always somewhere he shouldn't be in class or doing something that was not included in directions. Although he was an extra, I may just pull him out regardless in order to see how he behaves in a one on one/small group environment.
I will be focusing on comprehension, retelling and sequencing for the reading lessons, since all of the students need continuous practice. The tasks my Mentor teacher provided for me will be a guide while planning my lessons. She also mentioned that the work she is suggesting will be seen by the students again on the state exams!!!
